Mary Ellen Barley is a familiar and friendly face at the front office of JB Wright Elementary. Beyond greeting visitors with her warm smile, she’s also known as the school’s “stray animal helper.” Anytime a stray dog wanders onto or near campus, Mary Ellen is the first to step in. Equipped with a chip reader in her office, she goes above and beyond to reunite lost pets with their owners.
Her love for animals is nothing short of extraordinary. At home, she cares for an impressive 18 pets, ranging from lizards to cats and dogs. Mary Ellen simply can’t ignore a creature in need.
When she’s not busy rescuing animals, she’s indulging her love of Disney, with Stitch being her all-time favorite character. Mary Ellen’s compassion and enthusiasm make her a true gem at JB Wright Elementary.
Who doesn't adore polka dots? JB Wright kindergarten students dug into them with their hands and minds to create a courtyard art installation as part of their OMA journey with Arts Integration Specialist Trista Tamura.
