AVID
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Advancement)
AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
Utilizing AVID strategies and practices provide elementary students an opportunity to develop strong meta-cognition, collaborative, and processing skills allows them to better understand and utilize content information. The core of AVID Foundations classrooms is WICOR (Writing to Learn, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading to Learn). Foundations classrooms are designed to develop and build academic skills in all core content areas as students are learning to reflect on their own learning.

AVID ROCKS!
Shout out from AVID district coordinator Kathryn Jensen-
“Congratulations to Wright Elementary for being selected to serve as an AVID Showcase School for the SY2020-21. In preparation for becoming an AVID Showcase School, Wright opened their doors to visitors to observe and participate in their schoolwide AVID program. From the school mission, to the student leaders serving as AVID ambassadors and the student work displayed, Wright Elementary has wholeheartedly embraced the AVID philosophy to engage students in self advocacy skills and the opportunity to achieve in rigorous curriculum. The AVID strategies used schoolwide are providing the Wright Wildcats with the skills and knowledge to learn and become future ready! Congratulations to the faculty, staff, students and parents of Wright Elementary!”
